BRAISED BEEF


Ingredients:

1 kg MONTEREY BEEF KAMTO, cut into 1 inch cubes
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup rice wine
1 tbsp chili garlic sauce
3 pc star anise
1/4 cup sugar
6 cups water
2 pc medium onions, quartered
iodized fine salt and pepper to taste
2 tbsp cornstarch, dissolved in 3 tbsp water
2 tsp sesame oil
green onions for garnish

Procedure:

  1. Place beef in a large pot over high heat. Add remaining items except the last 3 ingredients. Cover and bring to a boil.
  2. Once boiling, lower heat to simmer for 2-1/2 hours until meat is tender. Add water if necessary. Season with additional salt and pepper if desired.
  3. Add cornstarch mixture. Once sauce is thick, remove from heat then add sesame oil and garnish with spring onions.
Makes 8-10 servings.
