BASIC COOKIE RECIPE


Ingredients:

3/4 cup BAKER'S BEST MARGARINE
1 cup sugar
2 pc MAGNOLIA BROWN EGGS
1 tsp vanilla extract
2-3/4 cups MAGNOLIA ALL PURPOSE FLOUR
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp iodized fine salt

Royal Icing:

5 cups powdered sugar
3 pc MAGNOLIA BROWN EGGS, use egg whites only
food color

Procedure:

  1. Preheat oven to 375 °F. In a bowl, beat margarine and sugar until fluffy. Beat in eggs and vanilla.
  2. In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder and salt. Gradually add flour mixture to the margarine mixture while mixing to form a soft dough. Cover tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate until firm for about an hour.
  3. On a floured board, roll out dough a portion at a time, to a thickness of 1/8 inch (keep remaining dough refrigerated). Cut out dough with cookie cutters and place slightly apart on a slightly greased cookie sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges are lightly brown. Cool completely before handling.
  4. To make royal icing, combine powdered sugar and egg whites. Beat until icing is thick and very white (about 5 minutes at medium speed).
  5. Divide royal icing into batches and color according to preference. Decorate cookies using colored icing.
Makes 40 pieces.
