PUTO PAO


Ingredients:

PUTO:

2 cups MAGNOLIA ALL PURPOSE FLOUR
3 tbsp baking powder
1 cup sugar
2 cups water or pandan water

FILLING:

1/4 kg MONTEREY PORK KASIM, diced
1/2 cup water
1-1/2 tsp chopped garlic
1/4 tsp pepper
2 tbsp Hoisin sauce
1 pc star anise
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tbsp cornstarch, dissolved in 2 tbsp water

Procedure:

  1. Prepare puto molds by lining them with muffin paper. Set aside.
  2. Prepare steamer by putting in water until base is half filled. Turn heat on high until water boils.
  3. For the puto: combine flour, baking powder and sugar in a bowl. Add water and mix until smooth.
  4. For the filling: boil pork with water, garlic, salt, pepper, Hoisin, star anise, and brown sugar and cook until pork is tender. Add cornstarch mixture, continue boiling until thick. Cool then refrigerate mixture before use.
  5. Fill each mold with puto mixture and add filling. Arrange in the steamer and steam for 20 minutes.
Makes 20 servings.
